About this course
This four-year degree offers an alternative route into higher education for prospective students who may not have a sufficient or relevant academic background for university study. During the integrated Foundation Year, you'll undertake modules to develop your academic skills and confidence, exploring issues such as life quality, effective caring and communication, and gaining an understanding of the basic factors that influence health and social care.
Following the Foundation Year, you'll progress to Level 4 and learn from experienced professionals who'll help you develop subject-specific skills, examining health and social care from national and global perspectives, considering cultural values and beliefs, so you can deliver compassionate, high-quality and inclusive care for individuals, families and communities. Cultural competence, social justice, and adherence to relevant legislation and professional standards are emphasised throughout.
Professional work placements, integral to the degree, give you experience of multiple health and social care settings in the UK and abroad, with the opportunity to study abroad at an international partner university.

Can you apply?
GCSE English Language at grade C/4 or higher (or an accepted equivalent) plus a Level 3 qualification equivalent to 48 UCAS points.
Applications are welcome from mature students with few or no formal qualifications — these are assessed based on prior relevant work experience or learning, an interview, a written task and an English proficiency test. This course is not available to students on a Student Route Visa.

- UK Home fees: £9,790. Tuition Fees for this course in 2026/27 cost £5,760 for the Foundation Year. All subsequent years (levels 4 – 6) will be charged at the higher rate which is currently £9,790. Depending on government policy, tuition fees may change/increase in future years, and we will publish more information about fees for 2027/28 entry and fees for continuing years of study, when confirmed by the government.

A variety of assessment methods are used, matched to your programme's learning outcomes, allowing you to apply and demonstrate the full range of knowledge and skills you've developed.
WIC provides a stimulating learning environment with flexible, high-quality learning experiences, taking an inclusive approach that promotes teamwork, critical analysis, reflection and collaboration. Student representatives are elected each year, trained and hold regular meetings to represent students in institutional forums, and students are eligible for Leeds Trinity Students' Union membership.
Academic support is available via WIC's ACE programme throughout your studies. This course is subject to a minimum enrolment of 15 students.
